- Greater forgiveness
- Improved MOI
- Titanium build
- It cost more than the X16
To move the weight to the lower back, Callaway use some of the best materials in the industry. They combine the Exo-cage body with the triaxial carbon for the crown and sole. This basically allowed saving some weight which could then be placed on the lower back side.
The triaxial carbon is 35% lighter than titanium which was used by Callaway in some previous models. In total, there were 35g of saved and redistributed weight. So the manufacturer redistributed the weights through the internal weight pads, the medallion and the metal screw from the lower back side.
The result of the weight redistribution led to a 17% increase for the MOI. Speed was also crucial. This is why Callaway borrowed the Speed Step design from the XR 16. This ensures better and smoother airflow on top of the clubhead to improve speed as much as possible.
The result of these composite materials and improved speed rates is a solid sound which is very distinct. The triaxal carbon highly impacts the sound in a positive way. The driver can work for all types of players as it comes with three face-angle options which can be further adjusted to your desired customization.
The redistributed weight towards the lower back impacted the design of the driver as it now looks very triangular. The crown is hugely visually-impacted by the use of the triaxal carbon which gives it an uneven look. With three shaft options which include 45g, 55g and 63g you can further impact how the design of the driver impact your overall speed and technique.
Callaway Big Bertha Fusion is a very forgiving driver. It comes with good customization options which can cater for right-handed and left-handed players. The shaft comes in three weights which can make a huge difference in speed and stability.
It is technologically built to maximize weight distribution on move it to the lower back for an improved MOI. The triaxial carbon saved a considerable amount of weight for this to be possible but also impacted the sound and the look of the driver. Without being overly engineered, the driver borrowed the Speed Step form the XR 15 for improved air circulation. The final result is a driver with three different face angles which can work for players of all levels.
