Pros
- Lower spinning
- Taller face
- Compact design
Cons
- The Boeing contribution doesn`t seem too obvious
Overall
In order to be lower spinning the XR 16 Pro has been made with a more traditional shape which includes a taller face. It makes it more compact which will massively impact the sound that is more solid now and will make an impact on the course. Compared to the XR 16 which is bigger and more forgiving, the Pro version manages to focus on the low spinning feature. To get the most out of the Pro version you basically need to do the opposite and center your shots in the middle to cover the greatest distance possible.
Performance
The driver comes with various shaft options. Using the stock Fuji shaft you can get good results with some room for improvement. Generally speaking you can get to over 160mph with a strength of 11mph which is not bad at all.
You can expect a 270 yards carry with these numbers. For some players the ball drops a bit too quickly, but given a 30-40 yards roll it may still be a good option. Ideally you would want to get more spin with these numbers to get a really long driver. If you setup the driver correctly and improve on your strength you could get even better results.
Design
The design is a top feature of the driver. It was clearly made to have a better looking face while being able to cover greater distances. The aerodynamics is clearly a top feature of the design as it focuses on faster speeds and more forgiveness. As the manufacturer worked with Boeing, there is a distinct sole which has a unique, channel-design. There is no real, measurable, method to asses if these channels truly impact the aerodynamics but they don`t hurt, that`s for sure.
Conclusion
The Callaway XR 16 Pro Driver comes with a strong impact sound. It could be compared to hitting a rock which is an update from Callaway`s muted sounds with the previous models. It will make sure you stand out on the course from the beginning.
Together with good long distance performance and a futuristic design, the driver could be a solid performer for players who know how to set it up for the best results. You also need to be in good shape to get the most out of the driver.
