- Improved over the G30
- New Turbulator design for better airflow
- Titanium build
- Uninspired name can confuse new players
To simply the understanding of the G series it has to mention that Ping dropped the numbers with this model, simply calling it G. Many new players can get confused on the timeline of the G family just because of the name. It still remains to be seen what the next G model will be called. In terms of new technologies and design, the G driver comes with a new pattern for Turbulators. This can be a significant step forward and a sign of things to come in the G family.
The new Trubulators improve the airflow on top of the crown. This technology has been studied and borrowed from the aviation industry. This was made using a titanium crown which reduced the total weight. The technology itself is impressive if not amazing.
In some places it is just 0.43mm thick. Previously it wash believed that anything under 0.5 thickness was impossible. As a result, Ping save 8g which was moved to the sole lowering the center of gravity by 1.2 mm when compared to the G30. This makes the center of gravity deeper and lower than any other driver on the market.
There is a new feature called Vortec. Situated on the back of the head, it has the role of smoothing the airflow making it more aerodynamic. As it reduces air friction it increases speed and will be greatly appreciated by professional and advanced golfers. The 8-1-1 titanium creates a larger head when compared to the G30. The loft design also allows for adjustability which will be largely determined between 0.6° and 1°. You can thus adjust penetration levels from medium to high.
The Ping G driver comes with a significant history with the G family. As the G30 was a successful driver it came down to Ping to come up with an upgraded model and they did so by heavily focusing on aerodynamics and lowering the center of gravity. They managed to do this with a thinner titanium material which also sounds richer.
The new turbulator design is also more complex and can show the direction in which Ping will take the future of the G series. With 1.2mm lower center of gravity it can be said the Ping G driver can be a good update even for G30 users. The driver will work best with advanced or professional players which don`t need to many features to get the most out of it.
